AWARA (1951) (All Time Top 99 Best Hindi Films)

Awaara (English: "The Tramp") is a 1951 Hindi film directed and produced by Raj Kapoor who also plays the leading role. Music was composed by the team of Shankar Jaikishan. Kapoor's real-life father Prithviraj Kapoor stars as his on-screen father Judge Raghunath. Kapoor's youngest real-life brother Shashi Kapoor plays the younger version of his character. Prithiviraj's father Dewan Bashwanath Kapoor also played a cameo role in his only film appearance. The film centers on the intertwining lives of poor Raj (Kapoor) and privileged Rita (Nargis). In the film, Kapoor's poor, innocent "little tramp" character references Charlie Chaplin and was further developed in other Kapoor films such as Shri 420. Meena Khosla has an bicycle accident with fellow collegian Mahesh Kapoor, and after a few misunderstandings both fall in love with each other. They would like to get married, plan accordingly, and get intimate. When Mahesh's dad summons him home to get married, Mahesh initially refuses, but subsequently gives in, and gets married to Malti Rai. In the meantime, a pregnant Meena is thrown out of the house by her uncle and aunt, gives birth to baby boy, and abandons the child in a forest. The child is found by a kind-hearted devout Muslim, Abdul Rashid, who decides to adopt him, much to the charging of the Hindu and the Muslim communities. Guide  is a 1965  Hindi  film starring  Dev Anand  and  Waheeda Rehman . It was directed by  Vijay Anand , who also contributed to the screenplay. The film is based on the critically acclaimed novel,  The Guide , by  R. K. Narayan , and is widely considered to be one of the masterpieces of the  Indian film industry . The film proved to be a box office hit upon release This movie proved memorable for its award-winning performances by the lead actors and memorable music by  S. D. Burman . A 120-minute U.S. version was made with additional directing and writing. It was produced by  Tad Danielewski .   The film was screened at the  2007 Cannes Film Festival , 42 years after its release.
