लाला केदारनाथ नगर के एक संपन्न व्यपारी है जो अपने तीन पुत्रो (राजू, बबलू, मुन्ना) व पत्नी के साथ सुखमय जीवन व्यतीत कर रहे होते है। एक बार अपने पुत्रो के जन्म समारोह में उनकी मुलाकात एक ज्योतिषाचार्य से होती है जो उन्हे वक़्त की अहमियत बतलाते है, परंतु केदारनाथ उनके तर्क को अस्वीकृत कर अपनी मेहनत को ही सर्वश्रेष्ठ बताते है और अपने तीनो पुत्रो के भविष्य को स्वंय बनाने की घोषणा करते है। उसी रात एक भीषण भूकंप में उनका घर-बार सब नष्ट हो जाता है तथा वे अपने परिवार से बिछुड जाते है, परिवार की तलाश में केदारनाथ से अनजाने में एक कत्ल हो जाता है और वे जेल चले जाते है। वक़्त के साथ तीनो पुत्र बडे होते है ज्येष्ठ पुत्र राजा (राजू) एक चोर बन जाता है जो चिनॉय सेठ के लिए काम करता है, मंझला रवि (बबलू) एक संपन्न दंपत्ति को मिलता है जहाँ वह अच्छी परवरिश पाकर एक वकील बनता है और छोटा पुत्र विजय (मुन्ना) अपनी माँ के साथ गरीबी में जीवन व्यतीत करता है तथा स्नातक होने के पश्चात भी ड्राइवर की नौकरी करता है। कई रोमांचक मोड से गुजरती हुई कहानी एक बार फिर बिछुडे हुए परिवार को मिला देती है। अंत में लाला क...

Lala Kedarnath Prasanta (Balraj Sahni) has 3 sons whose birthdays are on the same day. On one of the annual birthday bashes, a well-known astrologer advises him not to be proud for his achievements as 'Luck' (kismat) plays key role in everybody's life and thus, do not be optimistic for own future achievements. Lala Kedarnath ignores the prediction and is busy making plans for an even wealthier future. He proclaims to his wife (Achala Sachdev) that he wants them to be even richer.
